Super Bowl s24o
The s24o bicycle adventure is good for the spontaneous soul. But even a short getaway requires some planning skill and commitment. I am grateful to bike camping advocate Brett for rounding up a group of us for a trip that starts tomorrow morning, February 4th, 2012.
I am sure that there are many cyclists who also love football. This is not the case in my social circle. I would rather ride with...

Sleep by seven?!
Cozy in the tent and might be sleeping before I even hit the post button. Steve reminded me of the “zone of proximal development” theory today. Because steve rides, and does everything for that matter, as a means to improve, I ended up riding faster and with great purpose. Sad for the owners of the oyster truck and the taverns that didn’t get my business—but I arrived...

Bikes are good. Ride em.
This is where I met young Jake. Jake is from Boston and, in my book, is Bicycling Royalty:
Knew Sheldon Brown (!!)
Biked Paris-Brest-Paris on a Fixie (!!!)
Has welded his own Bike frame
Has a girlfriend who loves bikes as much as he does.
Jake too Christmas off this year to go on a ride from SF to San Diego. We road together for an hour or two in the morning. He...

Twas the Night Before Travel...
It is Christmas day. Holiday lights are reflecting off my monitor in nice patterns and I have had more than three meals already. Why do I feel like Santa is yet to arrive? Tomorrow morning brings a long-dreamed-about adventure; a trip down Highway One from Santa Barbara to Rossmoor, California.
It’s nothing more than an intermediate bike tour but it has everyone in the family behaving as...

Apple builds a nice s24o gadget? →
This is likely just yet ANOTHER rumor about apple products. But it got me thinking about the role of technology in bicycle camping. One of the joys of the s24o is NOT worrying about any equipment that might hinder a fast getaway. But we like gadgets a LOT and it’d be fun to be sending voice commands into the phone as it tracks our speed, progress, and altitude. I have a phone anyway, it...
50 miles, but no Tent? →
Dominique Blocker contributed a beautiful piece in the local news fountain, edhat.com, sharing some great sentiments and pictures of a saturday ride with friends. As an s24o fanboy, I want to just add a tent and stir.

A Bicycle Adventure Unfolds →
Here is yet another way to do it. Jump on a train with your folding bike and extend the range of your adventure. It is extra fun to read posts by folks who come to your town for an adventure. There’s a great element of rediscovery when you see your own town (or even workplace) though the fresh eyes of a bicycle adventurer.
Behold the Salsa Fargo →
Our favorite bike shop owner, Sam, has amassed 100 images of a bike that ought to capture the heart of any bicycle adventurer—the Salsa Fargo.

Not quite camping, but a beautiful ride
My buddy, Simon, and I did a nice ride on our Xtracycles on Tuesday, December 22nd. We started out at the bottom of Gibraltar Road in Santa Barbara, up Gibraltar, along East Camino Cielo, and down Painted Cave and Old San Marcos Rds. The Xtracycles climbed great, and carried along our food, water, beer, and extra cloths.
It was pretty amazing to see up close how much acreage has burned over the...
